The church and pastor became more biblically oriented, more open and authentic in personal relationships, and more collaborative in styles of leadership and ministry.  At the heart of the book is the concept of a 'ministry of abandonment', which may be defined as a ministry in which the leader/pastor abandons traditional roles while at once training and encouraging laity to assume them.  A story line from the pastor's personal life gives the volume dramatic tension and a 'novel-like' readability."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799714789255020544,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:36:11.368Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:02:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:00:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e3b79430-e807-45f2-9ae2-6d2b09e0774d","accessControl_ssim":["e3125285-6e4a-4bf9-9220-d3151d116bcb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Guidelines supporting families of clergy within the United Methodist connectional system"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:02:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:38:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["80ed8796-a620-4bb5-acdb-d033768ba224"],"hasLease_ssim":["ec1f263a-e4e2-44d8-8a01-9dc4414e9c9c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert L Treese"],"year_tesim":["1983"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald L Carr"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Spouses of clergy","Clergy--Appointment, call, and election","United Methodist Church (U.S.). The methodology involves the use of relevant literature, personal and professional experience of the author, and a questionnaire given to twenty-five seminarians.  With the assault on the outdated model for relationships of the dominant-superior 'partner' and a submissive-inferior 'non-person,' it is imperative to develop models and guidelines for doing ministry with straight, white, North American males.  The project discusses three retreat models and a mid-life counseling method with such males. A community service model was developed to help promote student volunteering, blood drives, and mission by the local church.  A pilot study using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory showed: 1) levels of anxiety decrease following a blood donation, and 2) the number of previous blood donations decreases the levels of anxiety.  An analogy drawn between the blood donor table and the Table of the Lord demonstrated parallels.  The community service model in the church is the body of Christ, as the church and the secular dynamic go together with organized service and mission shepherded by the pastor."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717359640903680,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:17:02.680Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"E William Mathews","hits":1,"label":"E William Mathews"},{"value":"Jeffrey Ellsworth Rhodes","hits":1,"label":"Jeffrey Ellsworth Rhodes"},{"value":"John M Grenfell","hits":1,"label":"John M Grenfell"},{"value":"Ronald L Carr","hits":1,"label":"Ronald L Carr"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Congregations--Internal conflict","hits":1,"label":"Congregations--Internal conflict"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Clergy","hits":2,"label":"Clergy"},{"value":"Laity","hits":2,"label":"Laity"},{"value":"American Red Cross","hits":1,"label":"American Red Cross"},{"value":"Blood","hits":1,"label":"Blood"},{"value":"Church work","hits":1,"label":"Church work"},{"value":"Church work with men","hits":1,"label":"Church work with men"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Boston University School of Theology","hits":4,"label":"Boston University School of Theology"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1983","hits":4,"label":"1983"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Boston University","hits":4,"label":"Boston University"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Boston University","hits":4,"label":"Boston University"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":4,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
