The research was carried out during work with several divorce support groups in a Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington, and a Reformed Church in America congregation in Holland, Michigan.  The purpose of the project was to help congregations establish a ministry both with and to divorced persons, and to demonstrate its consistency with the gospel.  It will help readers to understand the divorce experience both psychologically and theologically. An attempt is made to ascertain contributing factors, or conditions in the clergyman's life often present during extramarital involvement.  From these recurrent themes, inferences for prevention are drawn and discussed.  The study concludes with a consideration of the need for the church to readdress the areas of sexual theology, forgiveness, and restoration of repentent and petitioning clergymen.
