A questionnaire was administered to ascertain how lay and clergy leaders understand spiritual leadership.  A theology of spiritual leadership is presented, discussing the scriptural and historical roots of spiritual leadership and describing the spiritual leader in terms of servanthood, empowerment, discernment, spiritual experience, prayer, and sanctification. By examining closely where they have fallen into cheap grace and where they are called to receive and embody God's costly grace, participants significantly enhanced their understanding of God's grace in their lives.
