However, the change from a closed sect to an open church has brought changes in their understanding of a peace commitment.  This paper focuses on peace as a model of hermeneutics in the church.  The history of the church is investigated to uncover a hermeneutic.  To discover the contemporary understanding of peace, a questionnaire is mailed to 278 Brethren in Christ ministers.  The returns are compared with the historical research.  Results show strong support for a peace commitment with new understandings and applications. Demonstrating the interrelationship between effective contextual mission, Christ-centered worship, and koinonia/body life, he developed a project that sought to enhance all three functions.  By means of the ministry of the Word, the 'Balligo Church Advance', and the systems models approach to pastoral leadership, the pastor and church became effectively involved in contextual mission. Library research, interviews, and class notes provided the theological basis for this thesis/project. It uses a questionnaire given to Christian army chaplains to ascertain the status of social-justice ministry.
