The Christ-hymn of Philippians 2 is the scriptural model upon which the experiment was originally conceived. A small group of interested persons was assembled for the project. Using interviews, journals, and other tools which were utilized to measure the resources (money, possessions, but also time, health, values, etc.) of the project participants, steps were determined which might aid others who are interested in fashioning a simpler way of living. The method of study used by the author was the pro-active model as outlined by William Myers in his book, Research in Ministry: A Primer for the Doctor of Ministry Program. The results of the research indicated that 50% of the participants who were not involved in ministries with the poor prior to the study-immersion experience became involved in such ministries following the experience. Additionally, 40% indicated that study alone provided such a motivation. 20% indicated that experience alone provided such a motivation, and 40% indicated that both study and experience led to such a change in their lives.
