The central thesis of this paper is that a vision and ministry, no matter how impressive, cannot belong to one leader but must be embodied in the community through its leadership.  Grounded in the theology of Howard Thurman, it calls attention to the pervasive injustices of living in a society of white privilege, racial prejudice, segregation, and discrimination, and to our blindness as members of Christian congregations within this society.
