Culture and religion have imposed on women a 'necessity' to endure violence at home. Self-help groups seek healing and self-awareness for these women, based on their personal experiences and on an examination of the 'addictive' nature of Japanese society. The method used was to analyze a questionnaire sent to 685 students in 7 of these mission schools.  The author found problems in government policy, Christian commitment among faculty and spiritual development of the students due to the competition to enter the top universities. The literature on narrative theology and preaching is surveyed, as is Australian Aboriginal tradition, Jewish thought, and other movements.  A survey of teachers, preachers, and planned preaching events brings further understanding of the way narrative works allowing for significant conclusions to be drawn. Questionnaires were sent to 150 (99 returned) Presbyterian pastors.  The findings of these three studies were then correlated.  The results suggested 5 major styles of leadership: charismatic (Weber), dictatorial, participative, democratic, and laissez faire. This genre revealed dramatic limitations which led to the writing of a seventh, much longer drama which added a narrator and bit parts.
