Twelve participants were selected from the South English Street Church of Christ (Greensboro, North Carolina). It met for eight weeks reading and discussing material dealing with racism, Black rage, Christian spirituality, leadership, the Black church, and White Christianity.  The group experienced increased understanding of the spiritual and social ills afflicting Black men.  The participants felt closer to one another and spiritually stronger. The author planned and led seven worship services at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church that were integrated around the sermon's theme. A small group of laity was recruited from the New Creation Christian Fellowship of San Antonio, Texas.  While the main purpose of the group was to examine rites of passage as developed through Scriptures, African traditions and the Boy Scouts, particular attention was given to ensure that the group experienced the mentoring process.  This practicum/project laid the foundation necessary to establish a group of mentors committed to teach, transmit, and train young people to become all they are capable of being. The need was addressed through Bible study, fellowship, six evangelistic worship and preaching services, congregational response and evaluation, the response of a working committee of six persons, evaluation and critical reflection with the preacher.  The content of the messages preached emphasized the non-negotiable essentials of the Christian message as the kerygma for the context.  The thesis of the project was that kerygmatic preaching plays a central role in the local church's ministry of leading people to the experiential relationship with God in Christ by the Holy Spirit. The men's responses, decisions and demands for such preaching on Sunday morning showed the necessity for such preaching.
