She uses narrative and her work in an intentional small group to tell the story of preaching as pastor in a predominately-white congregation. She concludes that a pastor from the margins can effectively preach to a mainstream congregation if she understands the gifts of her traditions, attends to relationship building and the needs of the community, and stands on the promises of God.
