This thesis begins with a statement of the problem in chapter 1, followed by an argument that application is a theological necessity in chapter 2.  Chapter 3 reviews some relevant literature in the field of hermeneutics, specializing in the realm of application.  Chapter 4 outlines the approach advocated in this thesis.
