The study consists of a review of pertinent literature in the field of preaching, an examination of taped and published sermons, interviews with colleagues and four sessions with a committee of laypersons.  The study results in a set of guidelines for pastors on the use of personal material in sermons.  A committee of laypersons evaluates the initial guidelines with respect to clarity, organization and face validity.
