The writer argues that 'invitation' to play with the tradition is more important than 'indoctrination' with correct answers.  The paper begins by examining the Scriptures and the history of interpretation to show that there is room for a wide variety of interpretations and approaches to the Scriptures. From there the paper examines developmental theories to highlight the nature of children and the gifts children bring to the study of the Christian tradition.  Special emphasis is placed on the gift of imagination.
