Emphasis is placed on the 'ministry of presence' in the work of the chaplain.  'Ministry of presence' is a legitimate aspect of the chaplaincy not only because it prepares for other forms of ministry but because of what such presence itself does. The project includes a description and analysis of the results of a three-stage effort to deal creatively with the training by which chaplains are integrated into the Army. This experiment incorporates the concept of 'ministry of presence' into the chaplains' training program.
