This project set forth an effective pastoral couseling method to address and decrease depressive symptoms. African-American women's spirituality, and Womanist theology provided the framework for this process.  Biblical stories and cognitive/behavioral techniques, integrated with intentionally 'joining' the client, informed the pastoral counseling sessions. Research involved Aaron Beck's Depression inventory as a pre- and post-indicator of depressive symptoms, with five women participating in ifive counseling sessions.
