It gives a working definition of healthy spirituality.  Four case studies address the significance of individual values, guilt, anger, and grief as they relate to anxiety and pain.  The theological rationale for the project is based on Paul Tillich's threefold description of existential anxiety. The study indicates that chronic pain is more often the result of life history than medical history.
