This ethnographic study focused on what motivates congregational lay leaders to bring high levels of commitment to their service in the church and community.  Eight lay leaders were interviewed,  Nineteen motivational factors were identified. This project monitored their progress for two years.  Then an analysis of this congregation's progress was made using three methods: written reports of church leadership, observations by the author, and the re-administering of the parish profile inventory.
