This paper focuses on the recovery of soul and on the care of souls in the practice of pastoral care and counseling.  Research focuses on the depth psychology of Carl Gustav Jung and the gospel of John.  A comparison is made between the Self, the central archetype in the psychology of Carl Jung, and the Christ presented in archetypal symbols in John.  Both address the creative, dynamic, unifying center of personality; Jung does so in psychological language, John in theological/christological language.
