The NCD approach evaluated eight quality characteristics, advocating the use of the church's identified strength to build up its least- developed characteristic.  The research involved three administrations of the NCD survey.  The church's health index rose from thirty-eight to fifty-one on a scale of one to one hundred. Interviews revealed benefits in the process.
