In Chapter One, I will emphasize vocation as a manifestation of God’s eschatological shalom, a sign of God’s intention to reclaim the whole creation and set into motion a way of living and being which yields to the latter days ushered in by Christ’s death and resurrection…Chapter Two will examine the bivocational pastoral model against the present-day realities of mainline Christian congregational life as it has evolved through the cultural framework of American civil religion. In doing so, the ready will hopefully gain greater insight into how old ministry leadership paradigms have restricted a broader, more inclusive and baptismally faithful rendering of vocation, thereby opening up the possibility of engaging in new paradigms of church leadership.
