The church has participated in and is living through a major cultural shift.  In this context this project examines the cultural shift and the generation that has come to exemplify this shift: the 'baby boomers' born between the 1946 and 1964. A similar time of anxiety and discontinuity is found in the Gospel of Matthew.  The project examines two texts that illustrate Matthew's Christology and ecclesiology--the 'Great Commission' and the Beatitudes from the 'Sermon on the Mount,' Matthew 28:19-20 and 5:1-16--and compares them to find understanding and identity for mainline denominationalism.
