The theological rationale is based on the three-dimensional definition of koinonia by Joseph Henry Thayer.  The theoretical section provides a definition of koinonia and establishes criteria for the formation of koinonia groups. Historic and contemporary examples of small groups are then examined and evaluated using Thayer's definition of koinonia.
