Utilizing a Twelve Step-oriented methodology, the writer advocates a theocentric as opposed to a humanistic approach for improving self-esteem. Working with women at one California-managed prison--Northern California Women's Facility--the writer researches the variables affecting Christian converts who live in the environment of incarceration.  Quantitative and qualitative comparison is performed between a target and control group. Research reveals that incarcerated women's self-esteem is enhanced with consistent counseling, monitoring, and covenant goals.
