Death comes gradually often taking 10 to 20 years.  Ministering to these patients is a challenge because as speech fails, the patient becomes more frustrated which complicates the relationship to the minister and others.  The longevity of the disease often creates a severe burden for the family as well as the patient physically, emotionally and financially.
