Anger, itself, is not necessarily a negative characteristic. In fact, when managed properly, anger can be healthy; when mismanaged anger can be destructive. Historically, the Black church and the Black family have been the filtering systems which assisted blacks to develop methods and learn to effectively deal with dysfunctional elements in the total society. However, with the numerous changes in the total social order, the Black family and the Black church have discovered that counteracting these destructive forces has become very complicated.
