In response, the project proposes that a recovery of 'transcendence,' as defined in Carl Gustav Jung's theory of the unconscious, is the antidote to such a collapse. Based on Jung's understanding of projection, conscience, and individuation, the project echoes the call of Erich Neumann for an integration of the unconscious component of motivation in the ethical enterprise, concluding that such integration is as much art as science."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134264827314176,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:32:25.601Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:21:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"824781ff-1a50-419d-b56b-b2dac0175bf8","accessControl_ssim":["39510339-059a-44cf-bbf8-b47591d9ec48"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sin/evil in the view of Carl Gustave Jung"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:21:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:58:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9a25d8e5-dcd5-4214-806d-e0b2fb8ccf28"],"hasLease_ssim":["3fc04a59-0f6f-4198-b94e-eee39444288d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James Kallarckan"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Sin","Jung, C. While America has prided itself on its democratic ideal and its churches have sought to solve social justice problems, racial injustice continues to frustrate unity and trust among the races. Through education, cross-racial appointments, interracial dialogues, marches and rallies, the church has voiced its intolerance of racial injustice. The purpose of this paper is to provide another way clergy and the church may address the race problem. This new way presupposes a correlation between the Christian faith (the philosophy of nonviolence expounded by Dr Martin Luther King, Jr) and analytical psychology (Carl G Jung's concepts of the 'shadow' and to a lesser degree the 'self'). To a lesser degree the paper suggests, with Dr King as a prime example, that the degree to which one is able to realize the 'self' has a positive impact on one's public and private life, and the spirit of America as a whole. This paper concludes with some clues to enhance the growth of the ministering person and the effectiveness of one's ministry with respect to racial equality."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134169990955008,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:30:55.158Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:02:52Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:27:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b209cd0d-015e-4b52-b00f-b9b13869e3f8","accessControl_ssim":["4a85f586-3687-4544-aa0a-28d387efc2c5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Southern Baptist view of God and man in light of Jungian psychology"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:02:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:16:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8f860df9-2cad-4095-8127-061ec5e1b573"],"hasLease_ssim":["9f21eeaa-b948-4b9f-bf20-40fe5f993e1d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["William Ventimiglia"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Marcus M McKinney"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Jung, C. Through the use of the theories of C G Jung, this project suggests that the complex constellated around the deceased becomes an important component of the bereft's individuation. Because this complex is deeply shaken at the death, the ego can no longer access the libido that was provided by the complex and the self's individuation process is stopped. Dreams and-or visions are the archetypal nucleus of the complex renewed in a symbol. There are similarities between these grief experiences, near-death experiences and the resurrection appearances of Jesus Christ. The mind-body dichotomy which has been a stumbling block is discussed in light of the advances in quantum physics."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133637796691968,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:22:27.618Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:05:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:27:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b28230b2-bc54-4da9-be8e-c90e49208ff9","accessControl_ssim":["8e5d866e-7d79-4068-9f37-4b0ac7970e59"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Significance of dreamwork in pastoral psychotherapy and the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:05:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:17:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8d837ef4-f83e-418a-a31e-b9ec5548a953"],"hasLease_ssim":["e30fe738-b326-45ef-a606-5ce0e7054c3f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul Huss"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sharon Adele Whittle"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral psychology","Freud, Sigmund, 1856-1939","Jung, C. The dream's significance as an avenue of revelation and guidance in biblical history is demonstrated. Freud and Jung's rediscovery of dreams' meaningfulness and their respective dream theories are discussed. Methods of dream interpretation in the therapeutic process are presented. Types of dreams are categorized and illustrated. A profile based on a survey and interviews of one congregation's attitudes are presented. The themes throughout this paper are suffering, death, salvation, redemption, and resurrection. These are followed historically in the Old and New Testaments. Suffering in the OT is thought of variously as a punishment by God, an an educative process, as suffering caused by evil, etc. In the NT these views of suffering are modified in the light of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. Resurrection to life in the spirit completes the victory over suffering, sin, and death. The third and fourth chapters deal with these themes from a psychological perspective using the ideas of Jung and Frankl. Frankl's emphasis is the importance of finding meaning in suffering; Jung emphasizes the creative use of suffering. Chapter five is a theological perspective on the pain of God and our human dilemma. Shared suffering is important, and God shares our suffering. In the final chapter I have integrated suffering, death, and resurrection into my ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133510973521920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:20:26.670Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:05:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-10T21:37:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bc01da55-04c4-49b7-9140-a0a8e9f089a6","accessControl_ssim":["81df1528-6b4e-437e-98e2-cdbe2166d9fd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The people of God and the experience of alienation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:05:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-04-10T21:37:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3f165625-f13e-42ac-9ba1-77cc2b04fac2"],"hasLease_ssim":["4c1b4dea-ad96-4b80-8b31-c098951022b9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael R Nagle"],"keyword_tesim":["Laity Concerned"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Vatican Council","Alienation (Social psychology)","Pastoral psychology","Decretum de instrumentis communicationis socialis (Vatican Council)","Jung, C.
