She concludes that teachers of women preachers can be most effective when they take into account the unique ways that women grow and learn. This study provides theories of interpretation and knowing for spiritual directors.  The unconscious is variously understood to impede knowledge, to provide the building blocks for all knowledge and to constitute the essential prerequisites for religious knowledge and experience.  Models are used to organize diverse theories. Catholic theological structure, defined by the magesterium, is used because of theological conviction and the opinion that religious knowledge requires interface between personal structures with superordinate structures. The method is a series of ninety-minute interviews with nine gay men.  This allows us to hear the stories of gay men as they uncover the shame in their lives. Shame interferes with the positive affects of gay men, it causes gay men to experience isolation, a sense of being defective, and it contributes to failure around the issues of growth and development.  Pride results when gay men come out, restoring interpersonal bridges. The theories utilized were transported from action science, developed by Dr Chris Argyris and colleagues, into Christian theology.  The process focused on action science's double loop learning. The components of the project structure--the committee, the pastor and the community of inquiry--engaged in this process.  Information was gathered through audio tape, verbal feedback and written notes.  The results confirmed the hypothesis.  By changing the pastor's behavior, the pastor and committee were changed. By means of literary research and a survey of 117 individuals representing endowed United Churches of Christ, the study gathered data on wealth and descriptive statistics on church vitality.  The survey acquired information through mail response and by interview. The study registered a surprising rate of return and generally resulted in a favorable response to the practice of endowment. Religious experience was understood as one in which an individual has an intense experience of God's presence and this experience has a radical influence that moves one into a deeper realization of who God is and what God requires.  Through a qualitative study of fourteen participants it was concluded that the participants had a genuine religious experience. The study briefly reviews the historical roots of unconscious material, gives a short overview of the use of unconscious material within the spirituality of Roman Catholicism, and shows through the use of image material recorded during directed retreats how biblical imagery can be a catalyst for raising unconscious material to consciousness.  The results of this study illustrate the effectiveness of biblical imagery as an agent of integration. Through three case studies the author investigated what the image of God of a woman with eating problems might look like: both her more conscious God concept and the underlying 'God representations' which are shaped primarily by her experience of her own parents as these 'object relations' are stored in her psychic structure.
