Easily neglected or denied, the repressed shadow is then capable of actuating the split-off inferior, unattractive, too frequently feminine, side of psyche in such phenomenological forms as projection and scapegoating. Raising the unconscious to the conscious level is not viewed as optional, but mandatory. Two parish church case studies of conflict support the project's thesis, as well as a chapter devoted to the ontology of evil. Psychologically, the trinitarian image of God is found to be inadequate. God's nature is more completely symbolized within the quaternity. Satan, indeed, shadow, is to be interpreted as a vital part of creation, not to be nullified by negativity but positively appropriated within a paradoxical unity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133073742495744,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:13:29.694Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:26:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:21:40Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6bcc01ee-aa4d-4391-8890-dab971bde571","accessControl_ssim":["44c64b93-b1d8-4d88-b048-7ab7af84429f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Grace builds on nature: the integrative process of becoming a spiritual director"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:26:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:17:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["424cf73f-8985-4a0a-8b63-77c57a1e1915"],"hasLease_ssim":["9d9f92fd-52be-4a94-a0c8-ca2d0071c6d9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["J Earl Thompson","Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William J Meyer"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral psychology","Spiritual directors"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper explores the integrative process of becoming a spiritual director. After covering the foundations of the development and organization of cognitive, emotional and linguistic meaning systems for the individual, the author reinterprets psychodynamic concepts as metaphors which can be used in therapy to help the client describe his or her internal mechanisms and process. The use of metaphors to elicit change in meaning systems is portrayed, particularly in terms of developing a sense of self-love in the client. The final two chapters portray ways in which myths as process metaphors can be used to bring about therapeutic change, and then a framework in which Christian pastoral psychotherapists might be able to embrace what is vital about Christianity without sacrificing what is vital about being alive."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133739433066496,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:24:04.546Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:26:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:27:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bb52c82c-66ae-47a7-8504-35212176aaed","accessControl_ssim":["30682b82-d390-4ad6-ab2a-8bc2ee4415d2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Liberation of the self-mission of the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:26:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:31:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5bed583a-bf8a-41ce-817c-dac63d96c630"],"hasLease_ssim":["a16b89cf-0b50-45c3-b554-d2f36fc21831"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Dean P Mattson"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Catholic Church","Church--Teaching office","Love--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project asserts that humankind is created for a loving relationship with God. The mission of the Catholic Church is to promote humanization, i.e. to promote the development of humankind's innate potential for loving relationships. The Church could be much more effective. Object relations theory concepts of true versus false self can help to evaluate the effectiveness of Church ministry. The true self seeks loving relationships; the false self avoids them out of fear. Church teachings and discipline often promotes the false self. To promote the true self, and humanization, the Church needs to promote greater personalism, autonomy, and creativity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133987268198400,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:28:00.900Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:26:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:28:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bc878890-c5f9-42cd-b852-0e78410d9fb5","accessControl_ssim":["6e21a22f-c571-4cc6-b741-c28b167f530a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Bicultural relevance: a systemic study of the ethnic experience: the Armenian-American home"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:26:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:33:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0053c131-97c4-42a8-b264-b9fef7a6d30b"],"hasLease_ssim":["6451af45-339e-44d3-a2b5-9362a4caaa0b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["J Earl Thompson"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John Mokkosian"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Families--Religious life","Armenian Americans","Ethnicity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a systemic study of how ethnicity functions as a dominate factor in establishing a family's sense of self.
