This project presents one method of dealing with this problem.  The type of therapy provided and examined in this context is group therapy sponsored by the church.  The theological, psychological and practical implications of this therapy are examined as to their effects upon the group in general and the individual adolescents participating in the group.  Case studies are also presented as a way of examining the group's effectiveness. A ritual of union and homosexual case study reveal the psychological basis is the family of origin, generational patterning, and systems approach. It describes how alcoholism is a shared disease, affecting not only the identified alcoholics but also the systems to which they belong. Using family systems theory, the study suggests parallels between family and church.  It shows that just as a family in the process of maintaining stability incorporates dysfunctional behavior, so too does the church. The process employed in delineating the model is akin to that of an action/reflection mode of learning.  It is rooted in longstanding peace and justice action, and is expressive  of diverse experience in adult education. Through a synthesis of research and reflection, action and analysis, the dissertation seeks to systematize theological and educational resources into a coherent model of education for peace and justice ministry. A five step procedure includes: an adult education program; the training of volunteers; the formation of a cable television committee; viewer identification and needs assessment; and production of four television programs over a one year period. The author takes the humorous attitude as an ontological given.  She considers human beings to be anthropos gelasiens and/or homo risibilis -- created in the image and likeness of God (Theos Gelasios and/or Deus Risibilis).  The project explores Old Testament humor and Jesus' 'strategy of laughter' along with the primacy of humor in the Medieval church. It formulates an integrative model for the use of therapeutic humor in the liberation and development of the Individuating Self.  It indicates the types of humor that are most applicable to unfreedom in das Es, das Ich, and das Ueber Ich.
