For fifteen years, American Baptist Churches have used a printed form,  'Church Self-Study of Goals and Leadership Needs', to aid this reflection process.  The purpose of this project was to rewrite the form for the American Baptist Personnel Services.  Information was gained from persons directly acquainted with the document.  These resources included search committees, executive ministers, area ministers and pastors.  Data from each participating group was gathered and analyzed to form the background for the new document of church reflection.  The new form discusses the disciplined and guided thought which takes place when a church deliberately looks at itself -- its being, belief, function and mission. Maslowian theory concerning human motivation, conflict between birth-culture ties and a competitive society and the scarcity of bi-lingual, cross-cultural programs shaped the author's philosophy of pastoral care. It provides 'course correction' for male-centered bias in Christian ministry. The study uses depth psychology as found in the theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.  It takes a symbolic approach to Christian theology.  Its three parts are: the feminine as mode of being; the feminine as archetype; and the feminine in religious experience.
