It attempts to interpret selected concepts from communications system theory and neuro-linguistic programming which are applied within the context of such church functions as administration, pastoral care, preaching, and problem resolution.  Forty-four church persons were involved in this field testing, through eight workshops in Rhode Island and New York.  Prior to each session each participant read that part of the manual which was to be considered and applied the concepts in the manual through discussion and the playing of focused communicational games at the end of each chapter. Throughout the project report informal observations have been made relative to the field testing process, and the relevance of that process to communication in the church. In their treatment of the concepts field testers exhibited various important ways in which learning is communicated and intelligently and helpfully utilized the concepts to understand better problems of communication in the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133790351917056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:24:53.106Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:54:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:20:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"54b63447-b1b5-4ebe-85f0-12837ee58467","accessControl_ssim":["66477e2c-662b-40d0-9234-ca09d40e0296"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preparation for the sacrament of confirmation based on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:54:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:36:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d771ef5d-807f-4067-bbf1-ec226702ec3f"],"hasLease_ssim":["b9119730-2ec2-4d0c-8e88-ba17f28599c1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Maria Harris"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Arthur J Kubick"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Catechetics--Catholic Church","Christian education of youth","Confirmation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project explores the relationship of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, promulgated by the Second Vatican Council, to the preparation of young people for the sacrament of Confirmation.  The author sets forth underlying theological assumptions and looks at the catechumenate in its present form by journeying with one group of catechumens and sponsors from the precatechumenate in January 1982 to the celebration of Confirmation on Easter Sunday, April 1983.  Examined closely are the various stages of the RCIA: precatechumenate, catechumenate, special preparation (Lent) and mystagogy. Monthly teaching sessions, catechumen group meetings, sponsor catechumen sessions, service projects, liturgical rites, and Christian Living Days are treated.  The role and ministry of catechumens, sponsors, catechists, liturgical ministers, and catechumenate team are considered in turn. The catechumenate renews the parish community while that community is reaching out to initiate persons through Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist and this Doctor of Ministry project shows how all these various ministries function together to form a true catechumenate for Confirmation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133496152948737,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:20:12.536Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:54:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:29:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dc261ebd-c35e-41ed-8142-69866d91068b","accessControl_ssim":["3638287a-92b6-4810-80b3-6c6645b7f3db"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Peter, Paul and Mary's son: church, mission, and context: their interrelationship and its effect on ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:54:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:25:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ae911eb0-0a20-4a67-bd1e-f08cc9d19bdb"],"hasLease_ssim":["2dd3a28f-1f82-433b-bf17-e2d30cd71d9a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["George W Peck"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul C Clayton"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Congregational Church of Needham (Mass)","Bible. The purpose further is to explore the creative and dynamic tension between these three in global ministry, urban ministry, the life of the judicatory, and the life of the congregation.  One result of the study is the realization that mission itself is an agent of renewal for the church.  When mission occurs, the church is converted as powerfully as the convert.  The conclusion identifies leadership not as authoritarian or as managerial, but as a new style of leadership for a new time. The new style is modeled after the apostles Peter and Paul, symbolized by their meeting at the Jerusalem Council described in the book of Acts, chapter 15."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134111295864832,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:29:59.181Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:33:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:13:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1448bf92-c6ce-4e2f-bbab-5a85e5a7ad58","accessControl_ssim":["a669dc91-a061-4d4c-a572-075ffbe5629f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral care for the abusive marriage"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:33:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:43:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2cdde012-6739-40e9-8f8a-8749b1695a85"],"hasLease_ssim":["65220283-3579-4db7-b7ba-3c40efbddde7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Henry C Brooks"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gregory Alan Stoddard"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Marital violence","Abused women","Marriage counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is based on the assumption that a minister will encounter spouse abuse during his/her ministry, and will, therefore, require access to information describing what he/she needs to know in order to minister effectively. The thesis is that pastors are best prepared to intervene in abusive marriages when they have: 1) become knowledgeable about the nature and dynamics of the abusive marriage; 2) addressed their own fears and biases about violence in the home; 3) understood that theologically, violence and abuse are outside the scope of normative Christian marriage; and 4) are prepared to intervene in such a way that both partners are helped to recognize and receive help, and will support, if necessary, separation and divorce as viable solutions to the problem. Problems included finding a suitable location on a property large enough to accommodate building needs and programmatic endeavors, and addressing factors such as shape and size.  The location of the present church was a factor in selecting a site.  After finding the location, financing had to be secured. Three groups made the decisions: 1) the Information Committee which collected and analyzed the preferences, addresses and location preferences of the congregation; 2) the Land Search Committee which looked for the land and compiled data on each site; 3) the Trustee Board which advised and had to approve before a land offer could be submitted to the congregation for final approval.  Finally, the land had to be rezoned before it could be used for a church building. After approximately ten months of methodical work, the Christian Community Church purchased 1.5 acres of land in Toledo, Ohio.  The pastor was selected as the designer and overall chairman of the project. Financial and zoning problems were solved through negotiation and compromise."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133237581447168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:16:05.943Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:33:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"82391f6f-aa0c-42b9-83d6-ef50447e7b79","accessControl_ssim":["ed1d0e9a-97e7-4edd-a0aa-deef534452f1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral care as enabling lay ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:33:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:58:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e9ac7093-e04b-4e81-9318-ab57b9552a1d"],"hasLease_ssim":["379b9243-c482-46b6-a39f-0ee0740c81f8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard R Broholm","Paul Huss"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard Thompson Stuart"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Theology, Practical","Church work","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Effective equipping of lay ministers has far-reaching consequences for the church and world.  Pastoral care, 'the cure of souls' (often in a one-to-one relationship between pastor and people), takes on a corporate, comprehensive dimension when it enables and equips laity for ministry. Pastoral care, the church and the world are all enhanced when the ultimate goal is not solely the care or cure of souls, but ministry itself.  Premises regarding each aspect of lay ministry are challenged by the results of a survey of fifty people involved in ministry, and follow-up interviews with fifteen.  Results suggest methods of enabling lay ministry that are supportive within a local church.  Enabling ministries call for worship experiences, various church structures, educational programs, and support groups."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133706671357952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:33.302Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":302,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":1,"label":"Dissertation"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Conrad S Pecevich","hits":2,"label":"Conrad S Pecevich"},{"value":"A Rand Peabody","hits":1,"label":"A Rand Peabody"},{"value":"Abel Vilcapoma","hits":1,"label":"Abel Vilcapoma"},{"value":"Adele Smith-Penniman","hits":1,"label":"Adele Smith-Penniman"},{"value":"Alan C Macy","hits":1,"label":"Alan C Macy"},{"value":"Alan W Grant","hits":1,"label":"Alan W Grant"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Pastoral counselors and clients","hits":4,"label":"Pastoral counselors and clients"},{"value":"Congregations--Internal conflict","hits":2,"label":"Congregations--Internal conflict"},{"value":"Family systems theory","hits":2,"label":"Family systems theory"},{"value":"Pastoral counselors","hits":2,"label":"Pastoral counselors"},{"value":"Psyche","hits":2,"label":"Psyche"},{"value":"Relation (Theology)","hits":2,"label":"Relation (Theology)"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Psychology","hits":30,"label":"Psychology"},{"value":"Pastoral counseling","hits":28,"label":"Pastoral counseling"},{"value":"Psychotherapy","hits":21,"label":"Psychotherapy"},{"value":"Church work","hits":18,"label":"Church work"},{"value":"Clergy","hits":16,"label":"Clergy"},{"value":"Pastoral psychology","hits":14,"label":"Pastoral psychology"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"United States","hits":5,"label":"United States"},{"value":"Japan","hits":2,"label":"Japan"},{"value":"Ghana--Accra","hits":1,"label":"Ghana--Accra"},{"value":"Guatemala","hits":1,"label":"Guatemala"},{"value":"India","hits":1,"label":"India"},{"value":"Kenya","hits":1,"label":"Kenya"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":303,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":303,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":303,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1982","hits":27,"label":"1982"},{"value":"1992","hits":22,"label":"1992"},{"value":"1986","hits":21,"label":"1986"},{"value":"1987","hits":21,"label":"1987"},{"value":"1988","hits":20,"label":"1988"},{"value":"1996","hits":19,"label":"1996"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":303,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":303,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Andover Newton Theological School","hits":303,"label":"Andover Newton Theological School"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":303,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":26,"next_page":27,"prev_page":25,"total_pages":31,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":250,"total_count":303,"first_page?":false,"last_page?":false}}}
