After an introduction, describing the parameters, the project defines and illustrates the male wound. Two case histories illustrate the place of the male wound in therapy with clients. The project offers a theology of God as healing Father. A revised psychological approach leads to the process of healing the male wound, by rethinking and reworking father-son relationships. Responses were collated, analyzed, and reviewed with reference to psychological theory, church teaching on human sexuality, and criteria that define a basic or deepening level of psychosexual integration. The project explores roles and expectations of motherhood as well as examining definitions of family. It details the dilemmas for a mother who tries to parent when not physically present in her household; the dilemmas that she faces in confronting attitudes of judgment and prejudice; the dilemmas presented by feelings of guilt, rejection, and abandonment. The study reframes and rethinks traditional family models, and offers suggestions for those attempting to help mothers in this difficult situation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133726333206528,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:23:52.053Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:09:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:21:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6a97d790-219f-4879-8644-b0d1b4651fce","accessControl_ssim":["da824ecd-925c-4580-ad4d-0c1ab8a8b88c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A graceful goodbye: when pastors leave their congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:09:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:15:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cdf91fff-feeb-41ff-b294-efe3672a16d6"],"hasLease_ssim":["715517b8-1fc0-4e04-8e88-d55d81b26919"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["J Earl Thompson"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ross S Goodman"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Psychology","Clergy--Appointment, call, and election"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project examines how and when pastors terminate ministry in their congregations. By comparing relationships between pastors and congregations to marriage, the project uses insights of couples therapy to develop a model of the relationship that lends itself to the process of termination. Using grief studies and theories of attachment and separation, the project explores psychodynamics of loss for the pastor. Biblical and theological resources explain separations that offer insight into the ways that clergy might conduct their terminations.
