The basic concern of this project was to determine how the strategy might be implemented in the Eugene Seventh-day Adventist Church.  A theological investigation and an examination of contemporary concepts of caring in management literature form a basis for the study.  Two surveys establish the felt needs of the community and its awareness and attitude toward Seventh-day Adventists.  A third survey documents the attitudes and behavior of church members which enhance or inhibit church growth.  A narrative describes the planning and administration of a one-year program for caring church ministry in the Eugene, Oregon, Seventh-day Adventist church.  During the year's program the number of new members added to the congregation was minimal. In the last chapter, both church growth enhancing and church growth inhibiting characteristics of the Eugene church are identified.  Heritage and contemporary goals of members must be respected for a church growth climate to exist. Efforts must include membership in policy decisions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135182198145024,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:47:00.473Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:34:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:50:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"de200bf2-ecbb-46bc-8af2-e73d6fcd6565","accessControl_ssim":["508e54fd-3cd7-4d92-9555-60b39a7f6bf9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Rationale and suggested program for workshop on congregational singing for use in local church or district"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:34:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:29:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7327e058-7ca5-4c84-bcca-b91726305766"],"hasLease_ssim":["eab551fa-2fd2-4412-8039-df6afc51c3be"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andrews University"],"advisor_tesim":["C Warren Becker"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Christopher Ederesinghe"],"publisher_tesim":["Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"],"subject_tesim":["Church music","Workshops (Adult education)","Singing--Religious aspects--Congregational churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Congregational singing represents the part of corporate worship in which the entire group of worshippers present participates. However, despite the availability of broad general guidelines at the denominational level, these have not always been implemented in an effective manner at the level of the local church or pastoral district.  This project is presented in two parts.  Part one is a paper which serves as the theoretical component of the project.  It includes a biblical-theological rationale for congregational singing, a denominational perspective, an historical overview of Christian hymnody and suggestions for the implementation of the workshop program which follows.  The practical component of the project is contained in part two which contains the suggested workshop program.  The program is to be presented over two weekends. The first weekend helps the church members understand the role of congregational singing in worship.  The second weekend addresses the music personnel and worship leaders. He designed research to ascertain those needs and expectations and to find any differences between institutional and non-institutional members.  A review of homiletical literature brought to light methods that preachers can use to become aware of the perspectives and felt needs the congregation brings to the preaching event.  The methods of congregational analysis were applied to the Newbury Park Church.  Information from questionnaires, interviews and sermon groups informed the preparation of eight sermons from Luke which were presented during December 1985 to January 1986.  Feedback then was elicited from the congregation. The project concluded that while the felt needs and expectations for preaching are common to members of every type of congregation, the need for particular issues to be addressed is felt more intensely by institutional members of the Newbury Park church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135212387696640,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:47:29.265Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:34:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8640f46c-ca7d-4fc2-a3f3-411518591aa0","accessControl_ssim":["c73e3fc0-434a-43ab-8056-07576e1af226"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Development of a biblical paradigm for ministry to unbaptized Seventh-Day Adventist children"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:34:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:05:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["359d655a-08bf-4263-a2db-3e2a8eb6f33a"],"hasLease_ssim":["a35eaeb5-efa8-4843-985b-f0bfac9d0c9d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andrews University"],"advisor_tesim":["Reuben A Hubbard"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Seizou Wagatsuma"],"publisher_tesim":["Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"],"subject_tesim":["Baptism--Seventh-Day Adventists","Church work with children","Seventh-Day Adventists","Church membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper attempts to clarify the status of unbaptized children in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and to implement a more acceptable status. The project investigates the biblical and theological bases for the status of children in the church through an exegesis of key scriptural passages. This project explores the success of the congregational evangelistic campaign in meeting the needs of the secular mind.  The lay congregation prepares and implements the campaign which includes a public proclamation by laity.  The author analyzes this approach by means of twenty-two completed questionnaires and several personal interviews. He finds that 1) although there are weaknesses, pastors and churches generally are enthusiastic about this approach; 2) the open style and the focus on every-day problems are attractive to the secular mind; 3) an important factor is relationships which form among church members and visitors; 4) the approach activates the church; 5) it enhances the gifts of laymen. A study of the nature of prayer reveals that its primary intent is communion with God, not the registering of requests.  The task of this project was to lead the members of the Piedmont Park Church to develop stronger habits of personal prayer by deepening their understanding of its importance, potential and meaning.  A prayer curriculum was applied during a six month period.  Its seven parts included: sermons, meditations, prayer partners, mid-week services, week of prayer, video presentation and systematic pastoral prayer.  Both the Piedmont congregation and a comparison group (who did not receive the curriculum) were surveyed before and after the curriculum to monitor any change within each group. While the Piedmont group indicated an increase in understanding the importance, potential and meaning of prayer, it indicated decline in actual practice.  Conversely, the comparison group indicated a decline in understanding and an increase in practice.  The length of the curriculum and lack of involvement by many members weakened the project."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135432518402048,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:59.198Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:49:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"af85b97d-7ae8-439a-84a2-d7c1e9ce752b","accessControl_ssim":["7117c0e2-f4de-4889-8d59-3f560afcbbd3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A history in missiological perspective of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Japan from 1945 to 1985"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:32:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:11:54Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f82caa71-4420-47e4-b819-a1006721f7b5"],"hasLease_ssim":["48422244-c1be-4862-8b8e-0138b3523ca7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andrews University"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert M Johnston"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"location_tesim":["Japan"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tadaomi Shinmyo"],"publisher_tesim":["Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Missions","Seventh-Day Adventists"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to study the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church history in Japan after World War II.  It has been said that the Japanese church membership has not grown as fast as the church memberships of other countries in the Far Eastern Division.  Why is the SDA mission so difficult in the country?  In order to answer this question the writer surveyed, analyzed and interpreted the work of the church.  He examined the pre-war and post-war political, geographic, economic, social and religious conditions of the country.  The post-war church history was divided into four ten-year periods: restoration and advance (1945-1955); dependence on missionaries (1956-1965); transition from missionaries to national workers (1966-1975); and independence from missionaries (1976-1985).  It is necessary for the church to grasp the cultural context of the country so that the church may develop an effective strategy of mission for the nation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135364047437824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:53.899Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:00:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:46:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1c77bd2e-c796-4116-b723-2666e3ff9819","accessControl_ssim":["b3c7a74b-fa35-435d-a8e9-5d504cec7d7d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A training program for the elder, deacon, and deaconess"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:00:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:58:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["46ea3f67-62fa-413e-899f-08c516ebd1d5"],"hasLease_ssim":["32c1ef73-fec8-4486-b0f9-67fa67b8e1d8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andrews University"],"advisor_tesim":["Norman K Miles"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenneth O Swanson"],"keyword_tesim":["Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"],"subject_tesim":["Church officers","Service (Theology)","Elders (Church officers)","Leadership--Religious aspects","Jesus Christ","Deacons","Church work","Aurora Seventh-Day Adventist Church (Aurora, Ill)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project considered the concept of servant-leadership in the ministry of Jesus Christ to provide the basis for determining whether laymen should serve as leaders. The thesis is that an enlightened understanding of conflict and the development of certain communicative skills can significantly affect how the parishioner perceives conflict and thus how he or she will behave in conflictive situations thereby reducing the strained interpersonal relationships and alienation that often follows in the wake of the conflict.  A conflict skills curriculum was developed for the Ardmore Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  Participants were volunteers from the congregation who met weekly for a total of 8 sessions. They were tested prior to the seminar and again at the end. A control group was used for the purpose of comparison. The question addressed was, Will a seminar on conflict change the participants' attitude and feelings about conflict.  Results indicated a significant change in the attitude of the treatment group toward conflict."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135300332814336,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:53.135Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":81,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Aaron Lopa","hits":1,"label":"Aaron Lopa"},{"value":"Adam R Bujak","hits":1,"label":"Adam R Bujak"},{"value":"Amofah A Asamoah","hits":1,"label":"Amofah A Asamoah"},{"value":"Andras Szilvasi","hits":1,"label":"Andras Szilvasi"},{"value":"Anna Galeniece","hits":1,"label":"Anna Galeniece"},{"value":"Bradford C Newton","hits":1,"label":"Bradford C Newton"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Clergy--Performance standards","hits":3,"label":"Clergy--Performance standards"},{"value":"Religious surveys","hits":3,"label":"Religious surveys"},{"value":"Tests and measurements in religion","hits":3,"label":"Tests and measurements in religion"},{"value":"Bible--Relation to Jewish literature, 200 BC-200 AD","hits":1,"label":"Bible--Relation to Jewish literature, 200 BC-200 AD"},{"value":"Bible--Relation to Old Testament","hits":1,"label":"Bible--Relation to Old Testament"},{"value":"Church and community","hits":1,"label":"Church and community"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Seventh-Day Adventists","hits":22,"label":"Seventh-Day Adventists"},{"value":"Seventh-Day Adventists--Missions","hits":13,"label":"Seventh-Day Adventists--Missions"},{"value":"Missions","hits":11,"label":"Missions"},{"value":"Evangelistic work","hits":9,"label":"Evangelistic work"},{"value":"Church history","hits":6,"label":"Church history"},{"value":"Seventh-Day Adventists--Clergy","hits":6,"label":"Seventh-Day Adventists--Clergy"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"Canada","hits":2,"label":"Canada"},{"value":"Caribbean Area","hits":2,"label":"Caribbean Area"},{"value":"Ghana","hits":2,"label":"Ghana"},{"value":"Malawi","hits":2,"label":"Malawi"},{"value":"United States","hits":2,"label":"United States"},{"value":"Appalachian Region","hits":1,"label":"Appalachian Region"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":81,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University","hits":80,"label":"Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary of Andrews University"},{"value":"Andrews University","hits":1,"label":"Andrews University"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":81,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1987","hits":9,"label":"1987"},{"value":"1997","hits":8,"label":"1997"},{"value":"1998","hits":6,"label":"1998"},{"value":"1992","hits":5,"label":"1992"},{"value":"1995","hits":5,"label":"1995"},{"value":"1986","hits":4,"label":"1986"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Andrews University","hits":81,"label":"Andrews University"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":81,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Andrews University","hits":81,"label":"Andrews University"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":81,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":7,"next_page":8,"prev_page":6,"total_pages":9,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":60,"total_count":81,"first_page?":false,"last_page?":false}}}
