Each of the six sessions included prayer, worship, teaching, discussions, devotional material, and weekly assignments.  The nineteen participants (five men and fourteen women) ranged in age from the mid-forties to the mid-eighties.  Class members showed improvement in handling their own feelings about suffering, in their understanding of the importance of the Body of Christ ministering to each other's emotional and spiritual needs, and in skills in responding to their own and others' suffering. The research question is: What is the effect of the practice of specific spiritual disciplines upon leadership roles by laity within a local church setting?  A secondary question is: Does the regular practice of these spiritual disciplines promote change in leadership styles? The project intersects church revitalization, missions, and biblical leadership.  Its purpose was to empower a small group of lay people in the Hungarian Reformed Church (Columbus, Ohio) through a seven month training program to promote the revitalization of their congregation.  Participants showed the greatest changes in their personal spiritual lives, in short-term planning for growth, and in formulating non-negotiable pillars of the church. The paradigm was presented in a series of five sermons and teaching lessons to the congregation of Berean Grace Fellowship, and in a series of five sermons to the pastor's conference of the Grace Gospel Fellowship. The two groups of respondents received the same information about the paradigm. After the presentations were completed, a post-evaluation assessment was administered to evaluate the impact, adequacy, and presentation of the paradigm. The Introduction to Discipleship was offered during the first semester and focused on biblical foundations, theory and practice, and participation in a discipling relationship.  During the second semester students were invited into a discipling relationship with the instructor.  Students were surveyed at the beginning of the year regarding their assurance of salvation, commitment to ministry, knowledge, commitment, and overall confidence to discipleship in ministry. The chosen method included administration of a pre-test and post-test Likert Scale instrument that was built within an eight session course on spirituality.  The results indicated a significant increase in awareness for growth in spirituality.
