The project studies the form and movement of lament psalms and offers five theological insights. It traces the development of the Presbyterian rite in the United States and examines its liturgical shape and theology.  It examines the various texts of the rite and assesses the extent to which they provide opportunity of lament. The evolution demonstrates a marked shift in meaning from the experience of the Apostles to the use of the terms in today's context.  The shifts are positive because they once again call the laity and the church community to mission and evangelization.  This project focuses especially on the role of the RCIA sponsor. Sponsors serve as examples of lay persons recognizing the call to mission and evangelization.  They are a group in need of formation in mission and evangelization.  The educational design for RCIA sponsors focuses on the role of the lay person and the community in mission and evangelization, and also provides an opportunity for the sponsors to experience the tie between their actions on behalf of the candidates as well as the action of the community.
