The author develops a theology of hopeful worship, based on the understanding that in worship we participate in a Messianic banquet already begun in the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Beginning with a review of current literature about eschatological dimensions of worship, the author describes major authors in the field, their issues, and their insights. The project constructs a theology of hopeful worship based on eschatological dimensions of regular weekly worship services, sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist, and a liturgical calendar. The author concludes that concentration on eschatological dimensions of worship makes those who worship aware not only of the 'end times' but also of the nearness of Christ. Realizing the presence of Christ in worship can potentially transform those who worship into those who base their hope on Christ's life, death, and future."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135092802846720,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:45:35.220Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:45:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:44:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0004e69f-9aaa-49f2-b143-5fe26caf2885","accessControl_ssim":["89b72dfd-412a-4988-af1e-25c68a6a809f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Identifying and claiming a model of spirituality"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:45:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:07:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["27a256d5-747f-42fa-9f40-5c6052f04b5d"],"hasLease_ssim":["7d3ab055-6430-4347-8579-f62b4aebe3d5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis R Donelson"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Georgia Lee Adamson"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Wesley, John, 1703-1791","Women clergy","Methodist Church","Spiritual life--Christianity","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A United Methodist clergywoman seeks to identify, articulate, claim, and portray her working model of spirituality, while also seeking to deepen her understanding of Wesley's approach to spirituality. The three models are: science vs religion; science as religion; and religion or theology as science. There is, then, a discussion of the dialogue past, present, and a suggested future of the dialogue. The heart of the project is the theological integration of the concepts and ideas that come from the literature together with reflection upon these by the author. The most important thread for future reflection is the concept of dialogue within the postmodern setting. It is in the postmodern world that security and truth can be part of religion as well as science. With the realization that even science is a set of relative truths, humankind can be free of the need for certainty as such. This freedom can lead us to even greater horizons of security within the truth of the faith. Our freedom from the need for certainty in religious truths can allow humankind to be free to say the 'yes' to all creation that creation's God empowered us to say."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135260718661633,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:15.357Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:15:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"98016e25-c7c8-49ff-8beb-e3d72eb6ea34","accessControl_ssim":["24d7ab25-51e7-4f40-a667-cc20fc01b6e6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Indicative preaching: from theory to practice"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:15:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:34:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a6b2c4c0-f769-45b5-871a-885767fe5f4c"],"hasLease_ssim":["61e26524-0906-4e34-a116-65885947dfd8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert M Shelton","J Andrew Dearman"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Leslie R Hyder"],"keyword_tesim":["Reflection (Theology)","Theory"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Bible--Homiletic use","Theology","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This integrative project sets forth the indicative style of preaching from theory to practice. Indicative preaching encourages a forthright, declarative sermon presentation that allows for clarity and theological reflection all at the same time. In this theory the function of the herald (kerygma) is to proclaim more than to exhort. Proclamation allows room for the individual listener to reflect, integrate, and respond to the Good News. Indicative preaching thus seeks to draw people into an intimate encounter with the Almighty, without rousing internal defense mechanisms that block communication. In this approach to homiletics it becomes an exegetical expectation for the preacher to maintain the integrity of the biblical literature, including its mode. This means adapting sermon preparation to reflect the true nature of the text. The project also presents guidelines for indicative preaching for the parish pastor and a series of six sermons. The guidelines are meant to be practical hints to facilitate the incorporation of indicative preaching into the local parish ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135304408629248,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:57.022Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:58:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:47:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"642bf446-a3f0-4722-a432-d90c5ef92f2b","accessControl_ssim":["ffbc9d2c-1c70-4da8-8d29-4e4a45284820"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Church's one foundation: embracing a decentering God"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:58:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:03:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a57d3fcf-f417-4b88-b9de-766bd670c312"],"hasLease_ssim":["c3a17805-f9fb-4897-819d-fb5cf29a8ed1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Cynthia L Rigby"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael W Ensrude"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Postmodernism","Barth, Karl, 1886-1968","Theology","Image of God"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Church's popular 'user-friendly' paradigm is in danger of defining God in its own image.
