Indicative preaching encourages a forthright, declarative sermon presentation that allows for clarity and theological reflection all at the same time. In this theory the function of the herald (kerygma) is to proclaim more than to exhort. Proclamation allows room for the individual listener to reflect, integrate, and respond to the Good News. Indicative preaching thus seeks to draw people into an intimate encounter with the Almighty, without rousing internal defense mechanisms that block communication. In this approach to homiletics it becomes an exegetical expectation for the preacher to maintain the integrity of the biblical literature, including its mode. This means adapting sermon preparation to reflect the true nature of the text. The project also presents guidelines for indicative preaching for the parish pastor and a series of six sermons. The guidelines are meant to be practical hints to facilitate the incorporation of indicative preaching into the local parish ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135304408629248,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:57.022Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:15:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:49:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a70a9275-a951-4de3-bfb6-0fba44b4943b","accessControl_ssim":["8cddbddf-8efa-412e-912e-11eb91c27fb6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The encounter of God as personal spiritual renewal"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:15:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["63430311-67c6-4107-ba0e-f28741748e89"],"hasLease_ssim":["95110be3-733a-4134-8e77-ea5f0e51fdcf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ellen L Babinsky","Robert Lively"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert S Bullock"],"keyword_tesim":["Theology, Reformed"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual direction","Experience (Religion)","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Presbyterian tradition has interpreted its faith primarily through Scripture, tradition, and reason. What is essentially lacking is an appreciation for encountering God in religious experience. This project examines the importance of primary knowledge of God through mystical religious experience. Chapter 1 addresses the theological basis for encountering God within the context of Jungian psychology, William James and the Western Christian tradition. Ultimately a theology of the Christian mystical experience of union with God is framed within the Reformed positions of John Calvin and Karl Barth. The minister's role as a spiritual director is examined in chapter 2. Group experiences are suggested as an alternative or prelude to the one-on-one relationship. Selection of a curriculum and lesson plans for a spiritual encounter group are submitted in chapter 3. The story of the formation of a spiritual encounter group is told in chapter 4. Overall, the conclusions drawn value the learning experience of the project as a success for both the author and the class participants."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135340319211520,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:31.270Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:15:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:51:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ebdb5ad3-1bbf-4b61-8556-ad146d095431","accessControl_ssim":["75e0e1dd-f467-4530-abfb-108439f4d143"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Creating guidelines for ecumenical worship in the small town ministerial association"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:15:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:52:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8476e5a9-c13f-4c14-ab25-8258be07ac5b"],"hasLease_ssim":["354023ad-a811-49d3-9d93-3a4d3ffb4f71"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert M Shelton","Stephen Breck Reid"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jeffrey L Baxter"],"keyword_tesim":["Worship--Ecumenical aspects"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Worship","Cities and towns","Public worship","Pastoral associations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project evaluaates the small town, its ministerial association, the nature of its churches and how ritual and liturgy are formed in the ecumenical context and how they affect that setting. The project concludes that the insights of liturgical theology can provide a basis for a thorough evaluation of a congregation's eucharistic life, and can help develop a comprehensive program for eucharistic renewal. The first section of the project develops a foundational basis in liturgical theology by reviewing and analyzing the approaches of five representative scholars. The second section uses these insights to interpret the practice of Eucharist in a particular liturgical context. Based on the evaluation of this context, the third section proposes a model for eucharistic renewal. The crunch and crisis of daily living is taking its toll on the religious as well as the non-religious. This adult study manual is designed to achieve two goals. First, there is a non-technical description of the dynamics of stress and its impact on the human body, mind, and spirit. Second, the material helps the reader understand that a practical application of Christian principles aids the prevention of chronic stress and promotion of mental health. The basic theological assumption is that the Christian faith is an absolute necessity for restoring human wholeness and wellness, and that Christian education is a practical means of promoting mental hygiene. The primary thrust of the manual is to demonstrate that as believers rely upon resources of divine power and apply the practical 'life principles' exemplified and taught by Jesus Christ, they receive grace, wisdom, and strength from God to emerge as victors rather than victims."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135367490961408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:57.183Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:11:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7b793d85-9077-47b7-b9a2-2274ce77aa43","accessControl_ssim":["b6031a43-af83-4d0b-9f4a-0ee3a6e906ad"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Object relational and theological perspectives on duality in pastoral counseling relationships"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:11:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:46:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f6f8290b-70e5-4c43-87dd-80982e4d58bb"],"hasLease_ssim":["dadb0444-ec79-4e0f-ae94-837aa8dc2a60"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ralph L Underwood","Laura B Lewis"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Burt L Burleson"],"keyword_tesim":["Pastoral counselors and clients"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Laity","Object relations (Psychoanalysis)","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Duality in counseling relationships is a concern today in the counseling community. Those who counsel in institutional settings in particular are struggling with the need and/or the opportunity to counsel those with whom they have some other role. This is especially true for the individual who offers counseling within the bounds of the local church community. A minister in the local church setting has many roles in the life of a congregation. With these diverse roles in place, church members and others in the community turn to the minister for counseling. The project is intended to shed light on duality and offer guidelines for the pastoral counselor who does counseling in the immediate context of the local church. The issue of duality is studied from the perspectives of object relations theory and pastoral theology. The project examines counseling and other pastoral relationships from the object relations perspective, highlights the importance of duality in pastoral ministry, and offers specific guidelines for persons who are counseling within the local church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f245891-e4c1-47d9-842b-9aefbafae138"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135257177620480,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:11.979Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:47:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:50:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b8d086a1-96fb-4a78-9784-b26df795094a","accessControl_ssim":["73e58c8e-74df-4f0c-a743-7582893c09f0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An examination of the models of ministry within the United States Air Force chaplaincy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:47:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:27:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2d8206ef-750e-4046-b113-8f898ee60f76"],"hasLease_ssim":["97c6eca0-b9b7-43fb-a8d5-fab61e737931"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William K Hedrick","Christine Eaton Blair"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert C Leivers"],"publisher_tesim":["Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Military chaplains","Church work with military personnel","Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The writer examines the models of ministry in use within the United States Air Force chaplaincy with consideration of possible changes due to Department of Defense budget cuts. The methodology used was to review the Fathers' work and preach nine sermons during Advent and Lent using the common lectionary and the work of individual Fathers as it related to a given text and sermon.
