This volunteer staff is solicited from nearly one hundred churches and Christian women's groups, and represents an attempt to involve the local community of faith in a social service program of truly ecumenical proportions.  Chapters include the justification for the church's participation in the program, the actual planning and implementation of the volunteer staff, and final evaluations of the effort. The plan for action includes a Bible study, an alcohol awareness sermon, a workshop, and a continuum of concern.  The model was tested in four local churches. Interviews, surveys, questionnaires and evaluation forms were used to measure the effectiveness of the model. Guest speakers and movies, as well as discussions, covered a general overview of the problem in New Hampshire and elsewhere, the various categories of abuse, means of prevention, and methods of treatment.  Special attention was given to the response of the clergy to child abuse--their legal responsibility to report it, their moral responsibility to accept it, and their need to deal with their own psychological reaction to it.
