The thesis employs a methodology of oral history using as informants indigenous Methodist women.  It contains stories of Meru women who have borne the gospel to homes, families, villages, schools, and helped found churches and Christian movements. Archdiocese of Washington (DC)","Paulist Fathers","Laity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis presents a planning and action project which adapted the missionary preaching tradition of the Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle (known as the Paulists) to the setting of contemporary Roman Catholic parishes in the Washington, DC, area.  Parish-based evangelization was shaped by contemporary Roman Catholic concepts of parish, lay ministry, and evangelization.  The project consisted of 1) involving parishes, 2) forming lay evangelization committees, and 3) developing evangelization activities.  This was done in four parishes in the Washington, DC area, between May 1988 and June 1989. Research showed that parishes became involved and people were reached by evangelization projects. Evangelism is discussed from the two perspectives of General Evangelism and In-House Evangelism.  General Evangelism concentrates on witnessing to persons who are not members of a particular Christian religious body and to persons who have not accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour. In-House Evangelism focuses on involving persons of the local church in the total life of the church.  Evangelism in prisons and hospitals is also discussed.  The project emphasizes the personal preparation of the individual evangelist in terms of mental stability and spiritual strength.  The project is evaluated from the three perspectives of the participants, the class leaders in the church and the DMin candidate. Data was gained from on-site visits to over twenty ministries in recreational areas from Maine to California.  These ministries were then presented according to their primary goals: worship, evangelism, counseling, and social action. A discussion of evangelistic strategies in recreational areas recommends the use of friendship, proclamation, and contact evangelism. Findings from on-site visits and research into evangelistic strategies are joined together in plans for establishing an evangelistic ministry among recreational areas in Maine. Bethany Church, located in growing southern New Hampshire, developed a strategy stressing disciple-making rather than decision-making. Using community assessment and a congregational survey, Bethany created a paradigm to reclaim the evangelistic enterprise by: expanding the vision; equipping the people; targeting the audience; and incorporating the newcomer.
