In developing mutual ministries of pastoral care an overview of methodology and the actual training experience for one local congregation are described. Included in these ten sessions are theoretical definitions of pastoral care, biblical and theological underpinnings for caring ministries, and pragmatic training skills for listening and responding pastorally. Parish-based evangelization was shaped by contemporary Roman Catholic concepts of parish, lay ministry, and evangelization. The project consisted of 1) involving parishes, 2) forming lay evangelization committees, and 3) developing evangelization activities. This was done in four parishes in the Washington, DC area, between May 1988 and June 1989. Research showed that parishes became involved and people were reached by evangelization projects. Research did not show that these kinds of activities changed the religious behavior of active parishioners as a group."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717259089805312,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:15:26.787Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:05:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:36:10Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1208af3c-784f-4ba8-9a96-78463a04b33b","accessControl_ssim":["31ac6e77-9c08-45e7-bbde-9e8c1dae9fa7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The ministry of abandonment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:05:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:38:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["89e48fd7-1de2-4321-b1e8-c33a7ec61b10"],"hasLease_ssim":["6ab6f786-e2c8-4e43-9dd1-8185471291f5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert L Treese"],"year_tesim":["1983"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John M Grenfell"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Church work","Clergy--Office","Congregations","Laity","Methodist Church","Clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Journey theology details how the pastor of a local United Methodist Church led his congregation through a period of crisis and change of many kinds. The church and pastor became more biblically oriented, more open and authentic in personal relationships, and more collaborative in styles of leadership and ministry. At the heart of the book is the concept of a 'ministry of abandonment', which may be defined as a ministry in which the leader/pastor abandons traditional roles while at once training and encouraging laity to assume them. This process is called the servant-witness model for renewal."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715969444085760,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:54:56.885Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:15:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:11:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2ac2b0a1-89e5-46fc-8a47-72d4f87ae28a","accessControl_ssim":["f81174d8-325e-4274-9f06-5776ceb6b2af"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Enhancing vision leadership in a selected group of lay leaders and staff through collaborative reflection on shared ministry experiences in a large, Central Florida, United Methodist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:15:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:23:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3948e6b2-69b0-46a6-ab4b-b89daf503806"],"hasLease_ssim":["f20494a8-a241-4381-9fa5-e3abbe4ce43c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Marnette Saz"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jeffrey Hill Stiggins"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Laity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This congregation-based project sought to enhance lay and staff leaders' ability to communicate a congregational vision through vision framing and sharing vision stories. Participants met weekly for three months, presented verbatim and reflected on how they were learning to share the vision. The group discovered that developing shared vision is an ongoing process requiring deliberate reflection and accountability. Leaders seeking to do so must comprehend the vision profoundly, be genuinely committed to it and learn how to refer to the vision statement explicitly in all aspects of their ministry.
