The author realized that his ministry could be significantly hampered because it lacked pertinent developmental understanding of his parishioners.  The project's process involved three primary components: individual interviews with subsequent Fowlerian interpretations, a group evaluative meeting, and a concluding questionnaire. The project took place within a congregation in the United Church of Canada and involved 36 session members who were responsible with the minister for the congregation's spiritual oversight. The approach is basically 'phenomenological,' involving in-depth, structured interviews with twenty professional ministers who work, in pairs, in team relationships.
