The thesis employs a methodology of oral history using as informants indigenous Methodist women. It contains stories of Meru women who have borne the gospel to homes, families, villages, schools, and helped found churches and Christian movements. Traditional evangelical women exemplify how patriarchal paradigms prevent women from finding their voices. Pat Schneider's creative writing program was used in a spiritual growth workshop. The women participants described the difficulties of having a voice amidst both their church's patriarchal authority and their internal struggles with their role as women.
