A qualitative research methodology was used to interview twelve women who have been clients in pastoral counseling.  The findings demonstrate that pastoral counseling does facilitate growth in women's faith lives when the process is sensitive to women's unique experience of themselves, of their relationships, and of their God. The women were experiencing various transitions in their lives with resulting crises in their inner and outer worlds. This project describes the process used to compile a handbook for local church pastors with specific focus on white 'Old Yankee' Protestant women over the age of seventy-five.
