Four seminars held in the fall of 1986 were designed to explore how people age and how adult children can cope effectively with their parents in the new relationship which aging creates. The seminars included one session on understanding the aging process, another on relating to aging parents, a third on caring for aging parents and a fourth on available community resources. The project involved a five week study on nuclear war, out of which a proposal was presented to the general board of the congregation that Rush Creek Christian Church become a 'shalom congregation'. This is a national program of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) which involves a congregation committing one year of making the issue of peace the center of their worship, study, and action.  The motion to become a 'shalom congregation' failed.
