The project was designed for twenty sessions conducted over a ten-week period for thirty children from Dublin Elementary School.  The project includes the training of the church program council to conduct the sessions, preliminary studies conducted for the entire church, the session outline, and evaluations from parents, leaders, and children. Using a study course, participants considered open versus closed churches.  In a leadership conference, board members were introduced to the implications of shared ministry.  In a sermon series, congregants heard about five church models: covenant communion, sacrament, herald, servant, and community of disciples. By using such things as lectures on optimal family functioning, sculpting, circular questions, homework, and redescription questions, it seeks to help couples become aware of and change the family of origin relational processes which inhibit greater marital satisfaction.  Relational processes in six areas are focused on: roles, emotional expression, individuation, power distribution, communication, and subsystems. This paper presents the theological understanding of hope in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament.  The issue of theodicy and the meaning of suffering is also discussed.  The different theological understandings of hope for this paper come from Jürgen Moltmann, Wolfhart Pannenberg and John Macquarrie.  A theology of dying and pastoral care techniques are described for the different stages of grief.  These techniques are helpful to pastoral caregivers in providing hope for those who are dying.  The community of faith and their importance in providing hope for the dying is not addressed.  Case studies are presented to describe how the author provided hope to the dying through pastoral care techniques. It focused on increasing worship attendance, and reviewing and restructuring a worship format so as to facilitate the worship experience. It involved the pastor's preparing and presenting a series of classes and sermons. The four phases of the project included a congregation council leadership training program, a retreat on spirituality for congregational leaders, a seminar to train leaders in prayer disciplines, and a program of small group studies on spiritual issues.
