Wesley's class meeting format and his ordo salutis, the patristic concept of prayer, disciplined living and the struggle with the 'passions' and contemporary understandings that spirituality involves the whole of one's being undergirded the project.  The goal was that through this experience participants would confirm and strengthen their responses to the gospel. The drama evoked the stories of the congregation and strengthened their own developing faith journeys toward deepening trust.  The full-length drama was written with information obtained from faith development interviews of adults and from letters, writings, poems and memoirs in the life of 79-year-old Libba Herbert. A participants' guide is used to interpret this religious education ministry project to the audience who evaluated the experience and confirmed the project's thesis. It used the understanding of older adults in a support group.  With the Council on Ministries, they identified a specific need and designed a tool of ministry -- a congregational interest inventory survey -- which was presented at a worship service led by older adults. The goal of the project was to assist parents in examining the sexual ethic which they had created in the course of their life, and to assist them in exploring if that was what they wanted to share with their teenagers. The primary hypothesis of the project was that if parents better understood what they believe about sexuality they will be more willing to engage their teenagers in a conversation about sexuality. The dissertation begins with an overview of the epidemic of teenage pregnancies in the United States, with particular emphasis on South Carolina. Chapter two reviews the way humans construct their social reality and the effect that construction has on educational theory. Special attention is given to the work of Thomas Groome, with the following chapters built around his theory of education. Chapter three explores the work of William Strauss and Neil Howe on the differences between generations and how each generation has its own story. Chapter four shares the writer's journey with the issue of teenage pregnancy, as well as the stories of the project participants. Chapter five explores the work of several ethicists, Lisa Sowle Cahill, Christine Gudorf, and James Nelson, who are giving special attention to issues surrounding sexuality. It focuses upon the unique influence of Korean han as becoming an impediment for development transforming lay leadership in the Korean-American churches.  Han-ridden laity have suffered from the negative symptoms of han such as anger, vengefulness, resentfulness, helplessness, anxiety, psychoenurosis, and so on. Because of a negative effect of han, the immigrant churches have difficulties in mobilizing the human resources in terms of lay ministry. It is necessary to overcome the broken relationship with the Triune God and neighbors. This dissertation offers a particular way of lay leadership development by renewing the broken relationship. The essential identity of this dissertation is formed by the word 'intermediary leader.' Even though he/she was a han-ridden person, an intermediary leader takes care of his/her followers as the wounded healer. This dissertation attempts to critically reflect upon the application of H. R. Niebuhr's thought of 'responsible being' and Simon Weil's idea of 'intermediary.' This project investigates what Korean han is and what the influences of han are. For transforming the influences of han into the power of lay leadership, it suggests han-poori ministry as transforming lay ministry.  Han-poori ministry is designed for releasing han-ridden laity from the bondage of han.  It is developed in several components such as 'awakening step,' 'disentanglement step,' and 'engagement step.' Through these steps, the han-ridden laity are enabled to be intermediary lay leaders.
