Hymns selected illustrate the growth of the collection, the variety of musical styles performed by the congregation, and the theological, social, and musical basis on which these hymns gradually evolved. Through an evaluation of the concert by both audience and performers, the project demonstrates imaginative use of historical texts and tunes in today's church. Conversion of the purse is most difficult for most mainline Protestants in the 1990s. This project preaches a series of seven sermons from Luke/Acts to elicit 'conversion of the purse.' The texts are Lk 4:16-30, Lk 19:1-10, Lk 11:1-4, Lk 12:13-21, Acts 4:32-5:11, Acts 19:23-41 and Lk 6:20-26, which offer a variety of literary form and content. The sermons ask: Does God side with the poor? Can a rich person be saved? When is enough enough? Does life consist in the abundance of one's possessions? Is the choice between giving and dying? Is the way we make our money as important to stewardship as the way we spend our money? Are the poor really blessed? Exegesis draws from Luke Timothy Johnson, theology from Robert Farrar Capon, Richard J. Foster, and Douglas John Hall, and homiletical method from Fred B Craddock and Thomas G Long."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135081931210752,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:45:24.852Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:51:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:44:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b9811ccc-1c3d-4eb7-b816-c6d3f8301174","accessControl_ssim":["4ca27e4f-9b13-4ba4-b22c-ad2f4e6a4774"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Old landmarks revisited: exploring believer baptism in an ecumenical age"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:51:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:28:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["695f33e6-6835-41f0-81c6-504219e943e5"],"hasLease_ssim":["33ad6133-e3be-4c43-b42a-c268a9bffc82"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Theodore Runyon"],"year_tesim":["1996"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David E Buck"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Baptism and Christian union","Baptism--Baptists","Relations","Baptists","Church controversies--Baptists"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Believer baptism by immersion may be considered a deterrent to church growth and an irritant to ecumenism.
