He notes a contemporary waning of covenantalism and a skewing of voluntarism into expressive individualism. In response to this individualism, two practices for a reclamation of covenantalism among Southern Baptists is presented: congregational covenant-making and covenantal consultation. A model of consultation is developed which is congruent with the covenant heritage. Such upheaval and transition demand a process of reorientation that identifies vital elements for reconstructing an appropriate Christian ministry among a community in such seismic flux. Combining theological reflection, group interaction and 'acts of hospitality' provided a crucial first step in restoring the equilibrium of an old bluecollar neighborhood church and rekindling their sense of mission."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134911983255552,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:42:42.777Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:17:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:44:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b0d07518-52f8-4b21-936f-1c2976093800","accessControl_ssim":["fc3d8625-9f54-490b-b894-6de909c65686"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Growing a church, growing a faith: evaluating the role of the sermon in context of liturgy in forming the spiritual life of the congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:17:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:13:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["30da92e5-e0ea-4143-9764-6d49059e5ec7"],"hasLease_ssim":["642d122f-8dbf-4410-8115-c867707909db"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Fred B Craddock"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Janice Riggle Huie"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Worship","Spiritual formation","Preaching--Study and teaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project takes as its thesis the premise that members of a congregation grow significantly in spiritual formation as a result of regular participation in the Sunday morning worship of a church. The method which this project follows is experiential and mystagogical. The project concludes that significant growth in spiritual formation can and does take place in the worship service. Second, initial responses of long-time members differed significantly from initial resonses of 'beginners in faith'. Third, lay leaders often carry leadership burdens which sometimes hinder their ability to participate fully in worship. Fourth, the person of the pastor plays a large role in the spiritual formation of the congregation. Programs for ministry to both groups are developed in the ministry of preaching, teaching, and the work of small cell groups."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134915858792448,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:42:46.473Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:04:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:42:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"611db695-0b09-4388-bc0a-8e252428a41d","accessControl_ssim":["f7d12d5a-4006-40d1-9aaf-5643542a474b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The black lawyer and social justice ministry: an analysis of the role of law and religion in effecting social change"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:04:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:58:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["84360c00-0d01-4089-a6ed-2b812f94b5f3"],"hasLease_ssim":["3a27bb15-1319-4cdc-a7c8-01b7ab21e324"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Theodore R Weber"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lonzy F Edwards"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Social justice","Law and religion","Case method","Pastoral theology","Social structure","Social change"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Using the location of a landfill in a Black neighborhood as a case study, this project questioned the adequacy of traditional political tactics in social justice ministries and tested the thesis that law provides a viable way to minister to social structures and addressed the imbalance in political and economic power that perpetuates oppression. The study attempted to equip thirteen participants for this challenge by involving them in cognitive, affective, active, and votive dimensions of learning.
