A ministry of spiritual direction and covenantal, accountable discipleship encourages such discernment, and an ethical critique of the resulting practice fosters consciousness of variables that influence choices and determine the practice of ministry. Education is one means of bringing about a more realistic view.  To carry out this purpose, the study uses the andragogical model of education, as delineated by Knowles, to focus on a process of reflection and action among a small group of adults from five congregations in downtown Indianapolis.  In addition to library research, the study uses questionnaires, interviews, and observation to guide the inquiry.
