Phenomenological methodology was employed to elicit 15 women's stories of betrayal and healing. Three main frameworks of meaning emerged in the precedent literature and research interviews: addiction, traumatology and transformation. Biblical word studies anchored the research: imago Dei, one flesh, sexual sin, betrayal and healing. The findings reveal that healing is a complex and lengthy process. The women found God faithful through multilayered betrayals. Recommendations for missionary women and member care providers are given. Although most faith-based community development corporations are established and sustained by larger, African American congregations, this study contends that small churches also have the capacity to achieve effective community development corporation outcomes in economically distressed neighborhoods. In an effort to implement the participatory action research (PAR) model, this researcher sought to facilitate the process of empowerment and social change through the development of three training workshops for pastors and ministers and one final evaluation session that summarized and reported on the input from the target group. It was expected that, through this process, the researcher and the participants would gain an increased awareness of the biblical/theological and historical foundations of community economic development; the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to launch a community development corporation; as well as the challenges associated with engaging in community development. There were six major implications drawn from the results of this research project. Each needs the attention of church and denominational leaders; each poses a potential threat to the expansion of church-based Christian community development ministries that are so badly needed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129415570161664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:15:20.989Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:10:02Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:06:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6a93659b-9ae9-42f8-866c-8eadb8a7cf49","accessControl_ssim":["91458471-1cee-438a-98e0-7e5f8c48a92c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Discovering the relationship between short-term cross-cultural mission experiences and a long-term commitment to cross-cultural mission service"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:10:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:15:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9c7b8d63-0539-47b2-9993-66f9af8e1255"],"hasLease_ssim":["a26fee5c-3151-4b71-9b55-71eb38160df1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["David Cashin"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Timothy P Evans"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"subject_tesim":["Short-term missions","Cross-cultural studies","Missionaries--Training of"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The problem this paper sought to answer was, 'How can we better use the STM experience for Brazilians as an effective tool in a training program that produces healthy long-term missionaries?' Research followed a mixed-method approach. Interviews with nationals were followed by the development of a survey instrument. Thirty-three church planters trained by Crossover Communications International were studied. The research studied motivation and de-motivation from six perspectives: spiritual, economic, political/religious, relational, ministry activities, and training. The study found that Moldovan church planters were motivated most by spiritual vibrancy and close relationships. They were de-motivated most by opposition, fatigue, and being alone."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130082389000192,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:56.917Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:40:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:49:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"25a221f6-2599-4b82-889a-a54a4b78ab57","accessControl_ssim":["de2ff4db-76da-49c0-b2dc-7a4432d333b2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Characteristics of effective youth workers: the perceptions of church staff and parents"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:40:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:14:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eb69dab1-5bee-47b3-be15-27f432934324"],"hasLease_ssim":["0349c6db-4569-4491-97b6-8f2179fa84ff"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions"],"advisor_tesim":["Shirl Schiffman"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Karen Grant"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions of Columbia International University"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with youth","Clergy--Training of"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study was designed to discover what the local church (youth workers, senior pastors, parent volunteers) believe are important areas of knowledge, character qualities, and ministry skills for full-time youth workers.
