Little education about the disorder, theological reflection, and discussion of the pastoral needs has occurred in the life and work of the church. This project seeks to fill this void, utilizing the biblical genre of lament, the book of Lamentations, and the scholarship of Kathleen M. O'Connor to establish a theological framework for understanding autistic individuals and those who love and care for them. This work also provides an overview of medical information about the disorder in terms accessible and helpful to pastors and congregations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129716994867200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:20:08.450Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:48:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1f20d0eb-497f-47d4-8828-aba0ae1b1249","accessControl_ssim":["3ec01cec-7568-4e37-bb91-c2a1ee064974"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching poetically to a homiletically traditional congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:03:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f6c3f44b-7025-4cbd-b318-fba0a12c1072"],"hasLease_ssim":["789446ca-a9b6-4f37-a054-edd03b8a83f0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Anna Carter Florence"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas L Griffis"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Aristotle","Bible--Criticism, interpretation","Preaching","Poetics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Poetic preaching facilitates transformation in people so they become more responsive to God's Kingdom of faith, hope, and love. Aristotle's science of literature, called Poetics, is a strategy for reading and interpreting scripture and for preaching that creates an encounter with God during which the people experience themselves as claimed by God for life in God's Kingdom. The strategy identifies ways the drama of scripture imitates life through plot, language, characters, and reason. Through the faculty of imagination, the preacher interprets scripture using these poetic elements and transports the same into the sermon. The congregants enter into the drama both of scripture and sermon, locating themselves in the plot, identifying with the characters, and experiencing new alternatives for life as Christian disciples."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127702611165184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:48:07.384Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:36:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:21:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f7dc3c85-a2e6-4aef-a603-575cb640084e","accessControl_ssim":["69ebc22f-c9b2-491c-878f-33e402ccf2d9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Where is my comfort? a reframing of the scriptures on barrenness to promote healing"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:36:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:12:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fa812928-8029-4821-86e8-e29c40fcddec"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc860349-ff28-4b80-bfa9-df186c805a89"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kathleen M O'Connor"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rhonda J O'Reilly"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Infertility in the Bible","Bible--Criticism, interpretation","Women in the Bible"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many women who are childless feel rejected by the scriptures and misplaced in the church. Contemporary Christian loss of mythic, metaphorical thought patterns in favor of literal, rationalistic ways of thinking threatens the survival of the people of God and divests the Scriptures of their power to transform. The project uses secular story and biblical story in a 'sandwich' technique borrowed from the Gospel of Mark in order to restore an imaginative, metaphorical perspective to Christian consciousness so that biblical narrative can be reclaimed as story.
